The tension subsides a little. Rose produces a pocket-watch, flips it open then proceeds to wander round the room, looking at the clock face and tutting to herself.
From her seat, Fiona sees the cats heading upstairs.
“How many floors to this building?” Rose asks.
“With cellar and attic, four” Edward replies.
“Best start at the bottom and work our way up then. Would you show me the cellar, please.”
Edward rises, “This way” he says, leading Rose to the cellar door.
As they disappear from sight, Fiona seizes her moment, heading upstairs to the waiting cats.
