Fiona pauses for a moment, something about his greeting bothering her.
“Did you say 'without official sanction'?”
“We are sorry to inform you that we did, m'lady.”
“Sanction from who? And why was it refused.”
“Sanction from one of the Elder Princes. But it was not refused, nor even sought. We chanced upon you just this moment and took the opportunity upon ourselves.”
“Then why mention it at all?”
“So as to be clear. No doubt each of the shadow lords will make presentation in due time, welcoming you to their realm. We make no such claim.”
