The first thing Fiona knows when she regains consciousness is that she can't move except to open her eyes. The room she's in is dark so it's hard to make out any details, but she thinks she may be in a bed, with covers pulled as far as her neck. She tells herself not to panic, taking deep breaths as her eyes adjust to the gloom.
Slowly the darkness gives way to a palette of grey shadows. She begins to make out shapes: a wardrobe, chest of drawers, bookcase, a shadow octopus hangs from the ceiling.
And there's something else. Something at the corner of her eye.
