“People imagine the future. Some of the things they imagine happen, in some form or other, so they're safe ideas, and some ideas that don't happen become part of a collective culture, like people in the sixties thinking there'd be jet-packs in the future. So they're fairly benign. But some ideas are around for a long, long time, and when they don't happen....well, that's a lot of power with nowhere to go.”
