Once I'd settled in the chair, I began to realise how badly hurt I was. Nothing broken that I could make out, but aches all over and my head was throbbing.
I was vaguely aware that Mary was speaking. “Take charge, yes,” she was saying, “but nothing was ever achieved going at it half cocked.”
“We are being attacked on two or more fronts,” Oak replied. “Haste is our only weapon. We must isolate the assassin, then guard it at all times.”
“All I'm saying is we should be methodical.”
The room started to spin around me.
