I couldn't help but laugh, they looked so comical. I noticed Robert chuckling too, and a sideways glance at Mary saw her breathe a sigh of relief. My outburst had broken the tension in the room.
“I'm going outside,” said Robert.
“Is that wise?” I asked. “Is it safe? Remember what Raven said about getting lost.”
“Looks like a normal summer's evening out there” he said from the window. “Anyway, I need some air.”
I looked at Mary who nodded slightly. “Just be careful,” she said.
“I will” he said, leaving the room.
