We just stood there, frozen with shock at Raven's actions.
“Have a care, Corvus,” Oak said, “There will be consequences to
these actions.”
“Yes, yes, I'm sure there will,” Raven replied, discarding both
pieces of Oak's branch. “And hopefully we'll both be around to
face them.”
“You don't know...” Oak began, but Raven turned on him then,
stepping in close so they stood face to face.
“No,” he spat furiously, “You don't know. Your lot
never do.” Their eyes locked for a moment. “You turn up at the
last minute to make harsh, arbitrary, usually ignorant decisions.”
He turned back to Fiona, raising her eye lids to check her pupils.
“That approach is no good here,” he continued, stepping over to
Robert. “You'll see in good time.”
He reached forward to touch my son's head when Robert's body
convulsed, his eyes opened and his fingers scratched at the arms of
his chair as he wheezed, struggling to draw breath.
