Fiona
is starting to feel a little exasperated at the course of the
conversation. “Well what does that mean?” she demands.
“Like
many of his countrymen,” the Author says, “Eurymedes never
returned home. Considering the fate of those that did, maybe he was
lucky. Either way, he lurched from one adventure to another until he
finally washed up here.”
Despite
herself, Fiona can't stop herself asking “What happened to those
that did? Return home, I mean.”
“Nothing
good,” he replies, “Ugly, brutal endings, most of which passed
into legend in some form or another.” He pauses, then taps his
nose. “The will of the Gods,” he says knowingly.
