“No
it's not,” Strauss says, sounding much closer than Robert's
expecting. It gives him such a shock that he opens his eyes,
gasping. “You simply cannot see the hand,” the driver continues,
“It's not visible to your eyes.”
“How
is that even possible?” Robert asks as he catches his breath.
Fiona,
Raven and Strauss all turn to stare at him, all with eyebrows raised.
“Okay,
okay,” he says, “Sorry.”
“Did
you see what was written?” Strauss asks, “Could you make out the
words? Were they words? Was it in English?”
“I
couldn't see,” Robert replies, “But I'm going to give it another
go.”
Once
again Robert closes his eyes, focuses on his breathing, begins his
whispered mantra.
