“So,” Robert
begins, “This is how we all remember that day?”
“Exactly!” Tom
replies.
“And we're safe
here?”
“As houses, as long
as you don't try and engage
with them, your family.”
“What
might happen if I did?”
“Might
be something harmless, like you feeling their emotions for a moment
or two. Or you might fundamentally alter their memory of this day,
which could crack their subconscious mind. That wouldn't be so
good.”
“What
would happen then?” Robert feels his anxiety building.
“You
could change their entire personality. Introduce paranoia,
psychosis, schizophrenia, all sorts really. Did you do something?”
“I
was inside my head,” he admits.
“Oh
that's fine,” Tom says cheerily.
“Then
I was in Mum's.”
